Diane von Furstenberg Opens New Store at Americana Manhasset

DVF Facade at Americana Manhasset

The new store marks the brand’s first permanent, full-scale boutique on Long Island.

“Americana welcomes DVF. We are pleased to have Diane von Furstenberg’s fashion boutique join our collection of fine shops. Our customers have been asking us for her store for many years. Finally, we announce the DVF opening,” said Deirdre Costa Major, President Americana Manhasset.

The 1,400 square foot shop is the latest adaptation of the DVF store design concept. Inspired by the brand’s core equities, the interior evokes a playful sophistication and modern femininity that is effortless, sexy and on-the-go. Iconic graphic patterns contrast a white, gallery-like interior, with printed art and canvas wall coverings in black steel frames lining the walls throughout. A vintage Murano glass chandelier sourced by Ms. von Furstenberg herself hangs as the centerpiece of the store. A lip-shaped sofa and luscious fitting room drapery in DVF pink create spaces that celebrate and empower the DVF woman.

The Americana Manhasset shop offers the full collection of Diane von Furstenberg ready-to-wear, and a broad selection of accessories including handbags, shoes, scarves, jewelry and eyewear. It also features a dedicated wrap shop, which offers the full range of wrap dresses, gowns and jumpsuits in DVF’s most iconic prints.

Diane von Furstenberg is the brand that is consistently the best friend in a woman’s closet—the brand she turns to for glamour and confidence, to be the woman she wants to be. Founded in 1970 by the designer, DVF is now a global lifestyle luxury brand and one of the premier names in American fashion. Renowned for its iconic wrap dress and signature prints, DVF has expanded to a full wardrobe of ready-to-wear and accessories including handbags, shoes, small leather goods, scarves, and jewelry. The company also offers luggage, eyewear, and home furnishings. Founder and Co-Chairman Diane von Furstenberg is the President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. She also serves on the board of Culture Shed, the new center for artistic and cultural innovation in New York City. In 2014, Diane published a memoir, The Woman I Wanted to Be, and in 2015 she was named one of the TIME 100 Most Influential People.

Americana Manhasset is a premier collection of over 60 fine shops, including Hermès, Dior, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Loro Piana, Chanel, Ralph Lauren, Ermenegildo Zegna, Cartier, Bottega Veneta, Hirshleifers, London Jewelers and more, all within a unique outdoor environment designed by renowned architect Peter Marino and landscape designer Oehme van Sweden. Americana Manhasset offers a complimentary Personal Shopping Service, a remarkable luxury fashion and gift resource. Enchanting Rust Rapture Art Exhibition Opens in Austin

Austin, TX (PRWEB) May 15, 2015

Artist and Photographer Johnny Stevens reveals hidden art in the bold designs, textures and colors on “rat rod” cars in his Rust Rapture collection. Large art prints will be exhibited for the very first time in Austin from June 1st through June 29th at the O2 Gallery and Project Space (Flatbed building) in Austin. A special “Meet the Artist” reception will be held on Friday, June 12th from 6-8 p.m. at the gallery, and is open to the public. Stevens’ exceptional artwork is a must see for anyone interested in experiencing dynamic imagery derived from the exterior finishes of vintage rat rods ranging from a 1924 Ford Model T to a 1966 Chevy sedan. All images are available for purchase.

The idea for the Rust Rapture series began five years ago when Stevens first attended the Lonestar Rod and Kustom Car Round-up in Austin, Texas. A “rat rod” is a style of custom car that imitates the early hot rods of the 1930s through the early 1960s. “Rat Rods” however, have not been restored, and their exteriors have been subjected to the exquisite demise of Mother Nature. Stevens was absolutely blown away by the spectacular beauty he discovered in the organic finishes of “rat rods.” His photography exhibition features works that are each a unique amalgamation of textures and colors, creating bold movement and intense mystery.

“These cars are hot rods whose exterior finish has been subjected to harsh weather elements – – rain, heat, sun and occasionally an owner’s belt sander. The blend of old paint and rust produces a stunning patina which I capture through my photography to create this special collection of work called Rust Rapture,” adds photographer Johnny Stevens.

In Stevens’ abstract work, he strives to “reveal simplicity within the chaos”. He starts by following the rules, but only in anticipation of breaking them. “Rules are made to be broken, and Abstract is the perfect genre to exercise that right,” says Stevens. His philosophy is to do whatever works best for the image, often tossing the photographic mores of composition out the window. Stevens is driven to reveal new perspectives of ordinary images that are normally overlooked. The collection continues to gain international notoriety, as many of Stevens’ pieces grace the walls of boardrooms, living rooms and art galleries across the nation. The project has been six years in the making. This abstract art form is perfect for large print display in any office, conference room, hotel, or residence.

Stevens recently shot new work in April during the LoneStar Rod and Kustom Car Round-Up, one of the largest hot rod and custom car shows in the country. The show hosts hundreds of hot rod owners in what has become virtually an annual pilgrimage to Austin.

Rust Rapture was also recently featured in Austin’s Vetta Homes magazine February 2015 issue and the April 2015 issue of Austin Way. He will also appear on a Time Warner Cable News special segment, Local Wonders, which will air in May.

Past Gallery exhibits include:

Caldwell Arts Council Gallery, Lenoir, NC – April, 2015

Dell Jewish Community Center Art Gallery, Austin – June 2014

Artist Haven Gallery, Boca Raton, Fl. – March 2013

About Rust Rapture

Rust Rapture is the latest art exhibition of photographer and artist Johnny Stevens, which showcases the mysterious beauty he captures from the exterior finishes of vintage “hot rod” or “rat rod” cars. These vintage cars span 40 years and range from a 1924 Ford Model T to a 1966 Chevy sedan, with hundreds of models in between. Five years ago while photographing at the Lonestar Rod and Kustom Car Round-up, he discovered stunning imagery hidden in the rust of rat rods. These images gave rise to the Rust Rapture series. The art exhibit will be on display at the O2 Gallery and Project Space in Austin, Texas and will run June 1 through June 29, 2015.

About Johnny Stevens

Johnny Stevens was born and raised in North Carolina in a small town in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. As a child he was exposed to all forms of art – theater, opera, painting and music. Stevens attended Fleming College in Florence, Italy, to study art history, photography and painting. It was in Florence where he drew inspiration from Salvador Dali’s abstract representations of the world around him. Today, he still honors the lessons learned while attending college in Italy, looking for patterns that are disrupted, while trying to maintain balance in the composition. It is precisely this theme that fed his passion for revealing the inherent beauty of the rhythms, texture and color captured from the finish (or lack thereof) of rat rods and inspired the creation of his most popular art series, Rust Rapture.

In 1983, Stevens founded HORIZON Film & Video where he produced thousands of media products in all genres until 2005. Today he focuses on commercial and fine art photography, and is highly skilled in architectural, interior design and portrait photography. Another of his notable photography series includes “Cow Parade” – 72 images that were featured at The Austin Cow Parade, hosted by Jay Leno, which was a live auction to support the Dell Children’s Hospital “Superhero Kids” program in Austin, TX. Stevens currently works and resides in Austin, Texas. Along with being a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP), Stevens is also a respected member of National Association of Photoshop Professionals, Professional Photographers of America, Texas PPA, Austin Guild PPA, and Interior Design Society. For Men Only: Bio-Male Preventative Healthcare Center Opens in West Chester, Ohio

WEST CHESTER, Ohio (PRWEB) March 20, 2015

Bio-Male Center, the first preventative healthcare center “for men only” in central and southwest Ohio, has opened in West Chester, Ohio.

The center will focus on healthcare for the 21st century man, said owner Jeff Hogrefe, a pharmacist with an advanced degree in functional medicine.

Hogrefe also owns the Piqua Compounding Pharmacy in Piqua, Ohio.

Working out, vitamin and mineral supplementation and testing and treatment to optimize male hormones will be the focus of long term health strategies at Bio-Male.

“We want to treat the whole person biologically, helping men manage insulin, cortisol and thyroid levels,” said Hogrefe. “Our bodies are complex and dynamic systems. Drug therapy tends to disrupt normal functions to treat symptoms of disease, and symptoms develop long after disease is present. Fifty percent of men who have fatal heart attacks have normal cholesterol levels. This is not acceptable. Our men will be tested on more than 60 meaningful parameters that can identify cardiovascular risks at early stages. Our goal is to identify risks and develop lifestyle and nutritional strategies to modify these risks.”

Cardiovascular labs will also be conducted to identify a man’s risk for stroke or heart attack based on extensive bloodwork because standard lipid profiles fail to adequately identify cardiac risk, said Hogrefe. A male physician’s assistant will perform testing and personal training services will be available.

Three often-overlooked hormones in the body are cortisol, insulin, and thyroid. Most men do not usually have these hormones tested and addressed, yet they have a great impact on men’s overall health, he added.

“We will do comprehensive testing on these hormones,” said Hogrefe, “because there is a significant link between low thyroid and heart disease, depression, and metabolic syndrome.

“Identifying and managing high insulin levels and insulin resistance is critical for the prevention of diabetes and all the long-term, damaging effects to the body that occur. Cortisol is the hormone of stress and has dramatic effects on testosterone levels, body fat composition, sex drive, energy, and sleep patterns.”

Other hormones Bio-Male will address are testosterone and DHEA. DHEA levels decline in men as they age, leading to decreases in mood, energy and memory.

Falling testosterone levels lead to declines in mood, sex drive, muscle size and strength, and bone development. “In keeping with our core values of mimicking normal human biology, dosing of hormones will be based on physiological dosing– exactly the amount each body needs based on lab testing and symptoms,” said Hogrefe. “If you are coming to us for a testosterone fix, we are not the place for you.”

If low testosterone is treated in a vacuum, without addressing the whole body, and supra-physiological dosing, or more than the body needs, is used, men suffer more negative health consequences, said Hogrefe.

“We know this from treating hormone imbalances in women for the past 12 years,” he said. “You have to address the major hormones in the body—not just one– to have success with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.”

Supplements and other prescriptions at Bio-Male will be additional charges, but Hogrefe said his goal is to offer the best and most affordable options.

“Healthcare should be consumer driven,” said Hogrefe. “I want our members to feel like this is a great value and a great service. We do expect our guys to have health insurance, as the labs that we use will want to bill for services.”

Hogrefe said he has negotiated with labs to keep billing costs low so there are no out-of-pocket charges to members.

“Philosophically, I think that this is important,” he said. “Healthcare costs have gotten extremely expensive and we should all be doing our part to reign costs in.”

A Bio-Male initiation fee will cost $ 350, plus a $ 60 monthly fee for as long as a man stays in the program.

Fees cover extensive lab testing worth several thousand dollars two to three times per year; an initial, hour-long consultation and two, follow-up, 30-minute consults; direct email access to staff for questions; and a comprehensive, individualized healthcare strategy.

“We hope to include testosterone therapy as part of the package eventually,” said Hogrefe, “but there are conflicting laws that need to be ironed out by state and federal regulators before we can fully commit to that.”

Hogrefe is married to Lyn Hogrefe, CEO of Happy Hormone Cottage(HHC), which has offices in Mason, Kettering, Vandalia and Piqua, Ohio and Crestview Hills, Ky. HHC tests and treats women for hormone imbalances with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and strategies that include exercise, diet and supplementation.

The Hogrefes are advocates of functional, or preventative medicine, which focuses on testing to determine the cause of disease, then working with clients to prevent it.

Bio-Male is located at 7908 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, Suite J, in the West Chester Professional Office Complex near Cincinnati Dayton and Tylersville roads. Men are free to stop in any time to sign up, ask questions and meet the staff. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception is planned for April.

‘Chasing Dreams: Baseball & Becoming American’ opens in Cleveland on April 12, 2015

CLEVELAND, OHIO (PRWEB) April 02, 2015

Through its legends and myths, its struggles and triumphs, baseball has been a reflection of American society for generations. CHASING DREAMS: BASEBALL & BECOMING AMERICAN on view April 12 – September 7 at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage (2929 Richmond Rd., Beachwood, OH 44122; 216.593.0575; explores how issues around culture, race and community have played out in our national pastime through the stories of athletes, scouts, vendors, team owners, broadcasters, journalists, novelists and, of course, fans. It is the first time the exhibition, organized by the National Museum of American Jewish History (NMAJH) and made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence, has been shown outside of Philadelphia.

“Baseball has offered immigrant communities, including Jews and other minorities, opportunities to feel American, whether they’re on the field or in the stands,” says CHASING DREAMS Co-curator and NMAJH Associate Curator Ivy Weingram. “For many, the sport has served as a path to learning, negotiating, sharing in and even challenging what it means to be American, and it has enabled those who might otherwise be on the margins to feel every bit a part of American life.”

Matters of identity and discrimination have been projected on, contested and occasionally solidified through the sport. From Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby breaking the color line in Major League Baseball in 1947 to Cleveland native Justine Siegal becoming the first female coach of a men’s professional baseball team, CHASING DREAMS illustrates how heroes on the field have not only played the game but they’ve changed it. “Whether it’s Thelma ‘Tiby’ Eisen leaving her mark on the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in the 1940s or Cleveland Indians’ Frank Robinson becoming the first African-American manager in the Majors in 1975, the exhibition highlights the challenges of integration and celebrates those who have broken down barriers,” says Maltz Museum Director of Education Jeffery Allen.

CHASING DREAMS also highlights the intersection of sports and values, including first baseman Hank Greenberg stepping up as the first American League player to register for the peacetime draft in 1940, the revelation of backup catcher Moe Berg’s alter-ego as a frontline spy or Sandy Koufax refusing to pitch the first game of the 1965 World Series because it fell on Yom Kippur.

“This exhibition really covers all the bases, offering a mix of history, heritage, nostalgia and pop culture that will appeal to everyone, from die-hard baseball fans to former Little League players,” explains Maltz Museum Executive Director, Ellen Rudolph. This installation of CHASING DREAMS features an interactive fielding experience, a database of players and 145 original artifacts, including game-worn uniforms, game-used equipment, park giveaways, awards, stadium seats and more. “The National Museum of American Jewish History encouraged us to incorporate local items that fit the major exhibition themes and our partners at the Cleveland Indians and Baseball Heritage Museum helped us to do that.” In Northeast Ohio, the exhibition will include a Louis Sockalexis photograph, Nuevo Laredo Baseball Club correspondence, a Satchel Paige button, an Al Rosen baseball card and other significant memorabilia commemorating the region’s contributions to baseball history.

Historian and Baseball Heritage Museum Administrator Morris Eckhouse sees CHASING DREAMS as a perfect fit for a city with such a rich baseball legacy. “Cleveland has a history of diversity in baseball and a diversity of baseball,” asserts Eckhouse. “With League Park, the Cleveland Buckeyes, Classic Park, Canal Park and other minor league ballparks dotting the landscape, strong college teams and players like Frank Robinson, Ed Delahanty, Quincy Trouppe, Bobby Ávila, Bob Feller, Minnie Miñoso and Al Rosen, this is a community that is most definitely part of the bigger baseball story.”

CHASING DREAMS runs parallel to baseball season and will be accompanied by a schedule packed with related family-friendly events. “From baseball short plays to a screening of ‘The Kid from Cleveland,’ we’ve got a very diverse and fun lineup of programming in place,” says Allen. The fully illustrated 256-page exhibition companion book and a set of baseball cards developed by Jewish Major Leaguers, Inc. for NMAJH and the American Jewish Historical Society will be available in the Maltz Museum Store.

Major support for CHASING DREAMS: BASEBALL & BECOMING AMERICAN was provided by Steven A. and Alexandra M. Cohen Foundation; Richard A. and Susan P. Friedman Family Foundation; Annette M. And Theodore N. Lerner Family Foundation; Jane and Daniel Och; Marc and Diane Spilker Foundation; Leesa & Leon Wagner; The Wagner Family Foundation; Harriet and Larry Weiss; Judy and Fred Wilpon; and Sam Wisnia. Rubin; Susie and Robert Zeff; The Morris, Max and Sarah Altman Memorial Trust; Arronson Foundation; William S. Comanor Charitable Fund; Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia; Edward H. & Evelyn Rosen Philanthropic Fund; David Seltzer; and many other dedicated fans.

Locally, CHASING DREAMS is sponsored by Cleveland Indians, University Hospital Ahuja Medical Center and The Treu-Mart Fund. The exhibition and its related programming wouldn’t be possible without the generosity Mercedes-Benz & Porsche of North Olmsted; Audrey and Albert Ratner; Swagelok; Susan and John Turben Foundation; Stephen and Penni Weinberg; Baseball Heritage Museum; Cohen & Company; FirstMerit Bank; Lake County Captains; Barb and Abe Miller; Alvin and Laura Siegal; Akron Rubber-Ducks; Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff LLP; Corky & Lenny’s; Dollar Bank; Enterprise Corp.; Grant and Jennifer Dinner; Donald and Lynn-Ann Gries; Hahn Loeser + Parks LLP; David Malik; McCarthy, Lebit, Crystal & Liffman Co., LPA.; Scene Magazine; and Robert and Brenda Weltman. The Corazon Golf Performance Center, powered by Catalyst Golf Performance, will bring a new level of detail, comprehension, technology, and coaching expertise to the Columbus golf community. Catalyst satisfied golfers are of all ages and ability levels from beginners to top PGA Tour and ReMax World Long Drive champions.

“Our coaching programs at Catalyst Golf Performance are the most effective way for any golfer to improve because we take the time to truly figure out why each specific player is not accomplishing their goals before we develop that players personalized program, “ says Mike Napoleon, Managing Partner and Director or Golf Instruction for Catalyst. “We then use specific and structured practice strategies to help the player improve any deficiencies we find during our assessment process.”

The Catalyst Golf Performance game assessment process involves much more than a typical golf lesson:

The process starts with a detailed interview with the player to determine his goals and history with the game of golf.
After this, the player undergoes a comprehensive physical fitness assessment to determine all the characteristics of that player’s body.
Next is an assessment with the TrackMan Launch Monitor System to find exactly how the ball and club interact on a typical shot for the player.
A 3D biomechanics assessment determines how a player’s body moves in detail and how the player transfers energy during the swing.
The player’s short game skills and equipment are also assessed during this process.

“Catalyst is one of the most exciting offerings we can provide our members.     One of the company’s newest trainers – Jeff Flagg – won the ReMax Long Drove Championship.
