Feline Conservation Federation Offers Two Continuing Education Courses on Feline Husbandry and Conservation Education

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) May 16, 2015

The Feline Conservation Federation (FCF) will teach its highly acclaimed Wild/Exotic Feline Husbandry Course and its Wildlife Conservation Educator’s Course on Wednesday, June 24 at the Wichita Airport La Quinta Inn and Suites in Wichita, Kansas. FCF membership is not required to take either of these two continuing education classes. Attendees may also sign up for the FCF Convention which follows on Thursday and runs through Saturday night.

The FCF Wild/Exotic Feline Husbandry Course topics include natural history, regulations, behavior shaping, diet, habitat and enclosure design, health care and contingency plans.

Husbandry Course instructor Mindy Stinner is the co-founder of the Conservator’s Center in Mebane, North Carolina. Stinner says “One of the reasons this is a great course is that students participate in discussions. Since captive husbandry covers a variety of venues, everyone has different experiences that provide new insights and ideas for the betterment of wild felines under care.”

Because exotic felines are tightly regulated by city, county, state and federal law, committed owners need to excel at husbandry knowledge and practices. Stinner says, “Taking this course will benefit feline caregivers at any level of experience, from novice to seasoned zookeeper.

The Wildlife Conservation Educator Course will be taught by two experienced educators. Michelle McKay, founder of Zoofari Educational Encounters, and Kim Barker, educator at Conservator’s Center will be instructing this class. The FCF course gives students the tools necessary to become qualified as professional conservation educators specializing in wild felines.” The instruction manual teaches the basics on outreach shows and how to promote a business. More advanced topics such as how to expand an existing wildlife education business, and how to present effective conservation messages that engage, entertain, and capture the viewers’ attention are covered as well. Students are familiarized with the various licenses and requirements, and how to choose and prepare animals for outreach ambassador rolls.

The FCF recognizes the positive value of increasing public understanding of the many threats to natural eco-systems. FCF executive director Lynn Culver says, “Becoming a wildlife educator is one way to spread awareness about wildlife and their survival issues. Informing folks about conservation is important, but experience has proven that combining the message with introductions of spectacular animal ambassadors reaches an audience’s heart and motivates personal changes that can help save wildlife and wild places.”

Both classes start at 8:00 a.m. and run to 6:00 p.m. at the Wichita Airport Las Quinta Hotel and Suites, in Wichita, Kansas. Lunch is provided. Students receive a textbook to take home. Students that complete the course and pass the test receive a Certificate of Educational Achievement suitable for framing.

An online registration form can be used to sign up for either class and to pay the $ 145 fee. Lodging at La Quinta is available for $ 95 a night, breakfast included. Call the hotel at 800-255-6484 and mention the FCF Convention to reserve a room at this price.

The Feline Conservation Federation is a self-regulating society of exotic feline owners and handlers with an established group of professional members. FCF members hold important genetic resources that help conserve feline species and are a key resource of ambassador animals used to teach the public about wildlife conservation. Culver says, “Being better informed is the best way to help felines. Teaching the FCF Husbandry Course improves captive feline welfare and teaching the Wildlife Educator’s course improves the outlook for felines in nature.”

Campers will learn in a state-of-the-art fencing facility and from Olympic-level coaches, all within an encouraging and family-friendly environment. The camp also utilizes the nearby park by incorporating outdoor workouts and activities.

From AFM founder, Irina Chirashnya: “We strongly believe that competitive sports should both provide enjoyment and instill core values like courage and self-discipline. Our summer beginner fencing camp is a small window into what we do at AFM year-round, and we welcome new students with open arms and a passion to introduce them to our world.”

AFM’s coaching staff has been involved in multiple championship tournaments in Russia, Kazakhstan, and the U.S. They’ve trained more than 1,000 athletes including World and Olympic Champions; they have coached athletes to win gold medals. The opportunity to learn from this world-class coaching team is just one of the many reasons for the camp’s track record of success.

Take Wing Air Offers Aerial Cremated Remains Ash Scattering Over Land or Sea for the Cremated Ashes of Loved Ones and Pets

Nashua, NH (PRWEB) May 20, 2015

Take Wing Air, a New Hampshire-based aviation firm, now offers an affordable solution to finding a final resting place for cremated earthly remains in a more heavenly fashion. From its home airport in Nashua, Take Wing Air will scatter the cremated ashes of a departed family member, loved one, or pet by air at the family’s predetermined location while soaring the skies above the mountains, lakes, and seacoasts of New England and New York.

Bill Dino, owner and operator of Take Wing Air, says, “Although I have been a pilot for many years, I first got the idea of doing aerial cremated ash scattering commercially after I performed this service for my own parents. It brought a fitting closure to their lives and gave us comfort.” After doing a little research, Dino found there was a need for such a service in this area. One customer said, “I had inherited my grandparents’ ashes and been storing them in our hall closet. When we were preparing to move I felt it was finally time to find a permanent but fitting resting place. I was thrilled that Take Wing Air could scatter their cremated ashes over the mountains my grandparents loved.”

As part of their service, Take Wing Air provides a witnessed certificate documenting the time and location of the release of the cremated remains and a Google map overlay of the flight. Aerial ash scattering can take place at a large selection of locations over land or sea throughout New England and eastern New York state. They are also able to honor special requests such as music, flyovers, or readings.

Take Wing Air uses a specially modified twin engine plane that allows a loved one’s ashes to be released through the bottom of the aircraft in a safe and dignified manner; the cremains will always drift down and away from the plane. There is never an issue of cremated ash coming back into the cockpit or impacting the side of the plane. Dino reports this is a common problem with many competing services or “pilot friends” who volunteer to help.

Take Wing Air has been offering professional aviation services to the New York/New England area since 2011. In addition to aerial ash scattering, Take Wing Air offers contract pilot services for many different aircraft. All of Take Wing Air’s pilots hold commercial pilot ratings.

Northeast Houston Vein Center Offers Tips on How to Treat Achy Legs

Humble, TX (PRWEB) April 27, 2015

Sitting or standing for long periods of time can cause the legs to ache and feel tired, and for those whose occupation requires them to be sitting while they are working, such as receptionists and taxi cab drivers, or to be on their feet for most of the day, such as teachers and hairdressers, the discomfort can be more severe and longer lasting. These people suffer from a condition known as tired, achy leg syndrome. Dr. Madaiah Revana of Northeast Houston Vein Center is offering tips on how to treat this condition.

Some of the causes of achy leg syndrome include:

Peripheral Arterial Disease
Varicose Veins
Restless Leg Syndrome
Chronic Venous Insufficiency
Imbalanced Diet
Lack of Exercise
All of these lead to poor circulation in the legs. Through the veins, blood is returned to the heart as it circulates throughout the body. Because the heart is at a much higher position in the body, blood in the legs has to “pump” against gravity in order to reach it. Contractions in the leg muscles squeeze the veins and push the blood upward.

To keep the blood flowing up, and not back down, the veins contain one-way valves that only come into play when walking or being active. During long periods of inactivity, standing or sitting in the same position for a long time, the legs do not contract hard or frequent enough to force the blood upwards. When the one-way valves become damaged, they allow blood to leak backwards. As a result, the blood pools and gathers into the veins, causing them to have tension and heaviness, making them feel tired and achy.

Symptoms of the condition can include uncomfortable feelings in the legs towards the end of the day. Discomfort can turn into cramping in the leg, cold feet or a feeling of tension that leads to heaviness and pain and/or tiredness. Swelling in the ankles and itchiness and discoloration of the skin may appear. Rest usually eases the symptoms, but it does not eliminate them completely.

Most people who suffer from achy legs are instructed to wear compression stockings. Although these are helpful, they do not treat the underlying cause of symptoms. When compression stockings and leg elevation are not enough, there are alternatives that rid the problems for good.

At Northeast Houston Vein Center, Dr. Revana treats chronic venous insufficiency that causes achy legs using a newer technique called endovenous thermal ablation. This minimally invasive procedure uses high-frequency radio waves to create intense local heat in the affected vein. This treatment closes off the diseased vein and enables the blood to re-route itself to the other health veins. With minimal bleeding and bruising, this results in less pain and a faster return to normal activities, unlike vein stripping.

American Hearing & Balance Offers Expanded Tinnitus Therapy Options

Glendale, CA (PRWEB) May 05, 2015

Tinnitus is defined as the perception of sound where no outside source is found to exist. People affected often summarize the sound as a continual ringing, hissing, roaring, buzzing, or whooshing noise that is perceived either continuously or intermittently.

As reported by the American Tinnitus Association, tinnitus affects a projected 50 million Americans, with an additional 30 million workers at risk for developing the condition together with noise-induced hearing loss. The chronic sound of tinnitus impairs cognitive function, attention, and overall quality of life for those affected.

The good news is, while not all cases of tinnitus can be cured or alleviated, modern-day improvements in tinnitus therapy can provide much-needed and substantial relief for those afflicted with the condition.

The hearing specialists at American Hearing & Balance have developed expertise in the latest tinnitus treatments and are now offering these services to those in California. Contrary to popular belief, several tinnitus therapy alternatives exist that are generally very effective. A hearing specialist can work with individuals to find the best option for each individual case.

Treatment options include:

Treatment of an underlying medical condition, such as a blood vessel condition, can cure or alleviate tinnitus.
Hearing aids can generate the dual benefits of improving hearing and masking the tinnitus. This therapy is especially effective in those with untreated hearing loss that is causing the tinnitus.
Drug therapy, while unable to cure tinnitus, can create relief in certain circumstances with specific medications.
Sound therapy produces white noise that can mask the tinnitus, making it less bothersome. Various devices can provide sound therapy, and a hearing specialist can help patients select the best one.

Relationships Matter: Harris Allied Offers Streetwise Job-Hunting Tips

NEW YORK (PRWEB) March 19, 2015

With bonus season winding down, spring typically sees more job-search activity than at other times of the year. Employees who were disappointed by their year-end bonuses or who have been considering a job change look for opportunities with firms offering a better career path and compensation package. This is especially true in the financial services and high tech sectors where competition for tech talent is especially dynamic in the first and second quarters of the year, say experts at Harris Allied, a Manhattan-based executive search firm.

“How you conduct your job search today can mean the difference between just getting a job and finding a position that you really thrive in. Although much of the job-search process is automated today by job boards and applicant-tracking systems, today’s job seekers need to do more than post their resumes online and wait for the phone to ring. The ‘streetwise’ job seeker knows that getting the right job now is largely contingent on relationships and their professional networks,” says Kathy Harris, managing director of Harris Allied. “This is especially true with jobs at the highest levels of an organization.”

Harris offers job seekers a few suggestions for a “streetwise” job search:

Make a wish list. Take the time to think about what you really want from a job and company. Think about the size of the firm or department that you ideally want, as well as the culture, business exposure and professional development opportunities. Use this as a guideline to start your search. Research companies you’re interested in and might want to work for. Review job descriptions you find on career pages and identify specific roles that interest you. If you know someone who works at one of your target companies, schedule lunch or coffee to find out about the reality of working for the firm.
Align with people that can help you. Take a good look at your network. Who works at one of your target firms? Who knows people that work at that company? Do you socialize or workout with any of these people or are you connected on LinkedIn? Do you know the recruiters that work in that company’s industry?
LinkedIn may be one of your most valuable tools. Research your target company on LinkedIn and keep current with company news, including job postings. Consider joining and actively participating on industry trade group pages that include employees from your target company. Make sure your profile is up to date and includes keywords that recruiters would use to find someone with your skills.
Create a brand new resume. Don’t revise an existing resume. Write a new one with your new desired position or company in mind. Resumes are not a one-size-fits-all document. Use keywords and bullets to draw attention to key points and make the resume searchable online.
Make friends with recruiters. Create a short list of recruiters whom you know and want to work with. Job seekers can also find recruiters online and through professional networking groups. Ask your contacts for referrals to new recruiters within your industry. Ask to meet them in person and review their websites and LinkedIn profiles in advance. Make sure they are professional, have relationships at your level, and specialize in your market. Ask for feedback on your interview style and discuss recommended changes to your resume. Also keep in mind that recruiters will be able to tell you about jobs that are not posted online and searches that are confidential. Many high profile searches are never made public until the candidate has been hired.
Stay anonymous when you need to be. Be smart about how far and wide you network, especially if you are currently employed and your employer does not know you are looking. Have conversations with people in your inner circle that you trust, but ask them to be discreet. Also, be careful when you go on an interview if you think you already know anyone at that company. You don’t want to blow your current job before you find the next one.
“A streetwise job seeker will also get creative and go above and beyond to land the position that they really want. I know a candidate recently that was intent on working for a specific company. She offered to come in for a two-day working interview for free to show the prospective employer what she could do. She said, ‘If I am a fit, then hire me.’ And they did,” notes Harris.

Biodex Medical Systems, Inc. offers the LivMD Vibration Plate

Shirley, New York (PRWEB) March 11, 2015

LivMD improves a wide variety of conditions, including balance and muscle health, circulation and posture. It also helps to reduce pain. The device can be used for stand-alone therapy or as part of a rehabilitation program. Because it is low intensity, it is useful for those who have brittle bones or problems with balance. Just 10 minutes a day is all that is required to receive the benefits from LivMD.

LivMD is for people that wish to remain active, or as an adjunct therapy for supporting musculoskeletal health in the elderly or infirm. Unlike traditional whole-body vibration that operates with acceleration of 10g, low intensity vibration is a safe, scientifically-proven biological signal that improves physiological and neuromuscular health by improving muscle control and condition, balance, circulation, posture and reduces pain – all of which contribute to increased mobility and reduced fall risk.

The technology of low-intensity vibration is ideal for those who find it difficult to exercise or for whom certain forms of exercise may be unsafe due to risk of fracture, falls, or joint damage, or for those struggling to incorporate ample exercise to maintain independence.

“We are excited to include the LivMD as part of our Mobility Enhancement devices,” states Don Gronachan, Vice President Physical Medicine Sales. “It can be used for a wide variety of pathologies allowing therapists and facilities to increase their clinical value.”
