SEND International Launches New Partnership with Christar

For the past year, SEND International and Christar have been ironing out the details of a partnership agreement. This spring, both organizations signed that agreement. This new partnership will allow SEND members to serve on Christar teams and Christar members to serve on SEND teams.

The partnership is a good fit for both organizations who share a core focus: planting churches among unreached people groups. Don Parsons, SEND’s Director of Globalization, says, “We are on the same page with the big picture. Their orientation is church planting and that is our bottom line as well. We have the same goals.”

The agreement opens up exciting possibilities for both SEND and Christar. Brent McHugh, International Director of Christar, hopes the partnership will bring about “Healthier teams and an accelerated pace of planting the church among the unengaged.” Don Parsons is excited to tap into Christar’s experience in working among Muslim people. He also points to the Bible, specifically John 17, saying, “You can see all across Scripture the value of partnering together for the sake of the gospel.”

Initially, the focus will be on mobilizing missionaries to reach refugee communities around the world. According to the UN (in a report published June 18, 2015), there were 59.5 million forcibly displaced people worldwide in 2014. Antonio Guterres, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, has said, “We are witnessing a paradigm change, an unchecked slide into an era in which the scale of global forced displacement as well as the response required is now clearly dwarfing anything seen before.” Christar has found that these refugees, being away from home in a new environment, tend to be very open to new communities and ideas. This provides an open door to help these hurting people physically and emotionally as well as spiritually.

Both short-term and long-term missionaries are needed to meet these needs. Brent McHugh says that they are “looking for people who have a desire to plant a church among unengaged people groups. We look for boldness in sharing Christ and moving people along in discipleship.”

Many of these opportunities will be posted on the SEND International website, http://www.send.org, in just a few weeks. To learn more about either organization, visit http://www.send.org or http://www.christar.org.

SEND International is an interdenominational faith mission agency with around 500 missionaries in more than 20 areas of Asia, Eurasia, Europe and North America. SEND’s mission is to mobilize God’s people and engage the unreached in order to establish reproducing churches. SEND members are multinational and are recruited and sent from sending offices and partner agencies around the world. For more information on SEND’s mission and ministries, visit http://www.send.org.

New Study on BioCell Collagen Published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (JISSN)

Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) February 23, 2015

BioCell Technology announced today the publication of a new clinical study on BioCell Collagen®. The study, now indexed on PubMed, describes the potential of BioCell Collagen® for protecting the connective tissue of the musculoskeletal system and enhancing recovery from intense exercise. The randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study was carried out by investigators at the Center for Applied Health Sciences (CAHS) who presented data in June at the 2014 International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) Conference in Clearwater Beach, Florida, USA.

Earlier clinical studies of BioCell Collagen® have substantiated its safety and efficacy in promoting joint health and skin beauty. As these studies provide evidence that the patented healthy aging ingredient supports various connective tissues throughout the body, this proof-of-concept study was conducted to investigate whether daily intake of BioCell Collagen® for six weeks could protect skeletal muscle connective tissue following an intense exercise challenge, and also enhance recovery. Data from the study showed that BioCell Collagen® attenuated deleterious changes in muscle tissue damage and inflammatory biomarkers including creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, and C-reactive protein. In addition, subjects who took BioCell Collagen® appeared to show a more robust “repeated bout effect” as compared to placebo, suggesting augmented tissue recovery and remodeling.

“Extending its market-leading position as a key joint and skin health ingredient, this new clinical study in recreationally active healthy subjects provides intriguing dataset suggesting that this patented, research-backed dietary supplement has promising new applications in sports nutrition” says Suhail Ishaq, president of BioCell Technology, “This opens up a new category in sports nutrition regarding connective tissue protection and recovery from post-workout soreness and limiting repetitive, overuse related injuries.”

The details of the abstract are published on the JISSN website:

Whos on Top at CES? 20 Live Finalists Appear on Stage at 2015 International CES

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 23, 2014

Today, Living in Digital Times announces the finalists for their two lifestyle technology awards. Last Gadget Standing and Mobile Apps Showdown, longtime CES favorites, honor remarkable innovation in the hottest new gadgets and most likely to succeed mobile apps technology at this year’s International CES®. From a 3D printer that prints with recycled bottles to a pocket-sized molecular sensor, Last Gadget Standing finalists show true innovation, while Mobile Apps Showdown finalists bring app development to a new level from an app that helps users become a pastry chef to a total solution for online security.

“The press are always sharing their opinions but it’s the public that really knows a winner,” said Robin Raskin, founder and president of Living in Digital Times. “Last Gadget Standing and Mobile Apps Showdown are designed to be the people’s vote.”

What’s happened so far:

Finalists for each award were selected by an expert panel of judges, including journalists, engineers and developers. At the live show, once again hosted by Jon Hein of Howard Stern’s “The Wrap-up Show,” an audience of over 500 CES attendees will vote using a sound applause meter for a winner for each award. There’s also an online vote which is open now through January 8, 2015 at 9 a.m. PST at http://www.lastgadgetstanding.com and http://www.mobileappsshowdown.com. Two winners for each award, the live vote and online vote, will be announced at the live events.

Last Gadget Standing finalists will demo their new gadgets on-stage on January 8th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center (LVCC), North Hall, Room N255. Finalists include:

EKOCYCLE Cube from Cubify. 3D printers are now common, but the EKOCYCLE is the only one that prints using plastic filament, made in part from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles. It combines the maker spirit (actually, the re-maker spirit) and the environmental spirit in a single breakthrough product.
FLIR FX from FLIR Security. If it were just a Wi-Fi camera, it would be one of many, but the FLIR FX can be a wearable action camera or a dash-cam with built-in four hour battery. The camera’s Wi-Fi hotspot lets users access live video and operate the camera even if their away from the Internet.
Petziconnect from Petzila. Smartphone are now treat phones. With Petziconnect, users can see and talk to their pet when they’re away from home, and they can even dispense a treat.
Phorus PS5 Speaker from Phorus. The PS5 is a wireless speaker, but it’s so much more. It supports both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, streams from one’s own network media player or from online services, multiple units can be coordinated, and lets the user’s smartphone serve as a remote. It’s the wireless speaker, reimagined. Oh, and it sounds great, too.
Ring Video Doorbell from Ring. Doorbells just went worldwide. With the Ring Video doorbell, users can see and talk to the person at their door, using their smartphone, from anywhere.
SCiO from ConsumerPhysics. SCiO is a pocket molecular sensor, which means users can point it at something, such as a food item, and it will tell them about the item, at a molecular level. Is that turkey or tofurkey? SCiO knows.
Singtrix from Singtrix. Karaoke from the makers of Guitar Hero. Vocal effects, mic, stand, and controller, a full studio designed to make everyone sound great.
V.ALRT from VSN Mobil. The V.ALRT is the only non-subscription wearable personal alert device. Users can summon help using a button on the device, plus it will summon help automatically if one falls. The V.ALRT communicates via Bluetooth with their smartphone, which automatically sends the help request.
There are also two embargoed gadgets that are sure to wow to crowd. They’ll be unveiled for the first time at CES.

Mobile Apps Showdown finalists will present their new apps on-stage on January 8th from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center (LVCC), North Hall, Room N255. Finalists include:

Blur from Abine. Blur is a total solution for online security. Like many apps, it can manage passwords, but it also can mask user’s email, credit cards and phone number, and stop online trackers. It lets users decide who gets their personal information.
Breathometer from Breathometer. The Breathometer app, in conjunction with one of their two inexpensive breath measurement devices, can measure one’s blood alcohol content (BAC). Safe to drive? Ask Breathometer.
Fitnet from Fitnet. Fitnet videos are nice, but with the Fitnet app, users also get feedback on their training, as it analyzes their workout using their phone or tablet’s camera. Finally, a great use for selfie cams.
Hi.Q from Hi.Q. Hi.Q is a health and fitness app that tries to make users more knowledgeable about health and fitness. It uses quizzes to both help users learn, and help the app assess their level of knowledge. It also features community input to add to the engagement.
Lyve from Lyve Minds. Lyve helps users consolidate all their videos and photos in one place, using one of their two hardware storage devices. It also has sharing features, works with social media, and makes it easy for one’s cell phone pictures and video to become part of their permanent collection.
Perfect Bake from Pure Imagination. Smartphone or tablet in the kitchen while baking, usually a big mistake, but with Perfect Bake the tablet becomes the aide-de-chef and users can cook with more precision and better results. The system includes a scale, three mixing bowls, oven thermometer and of course the recipes.
SHAREit from Lenovo. With SHAREit, no cellphone is an island, it’s media kept entirely to itself. SHAREit lets Android phones become a part of the main, and easily share things, fast and convenient.
SPOT-ON from Wajam. SPOT-ON is a game that lets users play eye-spy with friends. Given a photo, players identify as many things in the photo as possible, and the best spotter wins.
Yuggler from Yuggler. Yuggler is all about kids activities. Users can share info about their own, or discover what others in their area are doing. Is the beach crowded, or maybe it’s a better day for the zoo?
uCiC from uCiC. The uCiC app lets users reach out to others, based on their location, and get photos back from them, showing what’s going on there, right now. Or ping someone, asking for a photo of something their near.

National Anti-Vivisection Society and International Foundation for Ethical Research Announce New Research Grants for Promising Young Investigators

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) November 11, 2014

The National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS) and the International Foundation for Ethical Research (IFER) are pleased to announce three first-time recipients of IFER Graduate Fellowships as part of the 2014-2015 grant cycle. By funding early career researchers with an interest in developing innovative alternatives to animal testing, NAVS and IFER hope to seed the scientific field with talented individuals prepared to integrate scientific discovery with ethics and respect for animals.

Recipients of IFER Graduate Fellowships, selected by IFER’s Scientific Advisory Board, have the potential to positively change the course of science by working to promote the advancement of humane methodologies that can spare animal suffering.

The investigators who are receiving first-time IFER Graduate Fellowships for 2014-2015 are:

Bryan Hassell, a Ph.D. candidate working in Dr. Donald Ingber’s laboratory at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University, has received funding for his project, “Human Cancer-on-a-Chip as a Replacement for Animal Testing.” Bryan seeks to develop an organ-on-a-chip platform to determine how lung cancer cells respond to chemotherapy depending on their organ-specific microenvironment, as well as to identify new anticancer therapies. Bryan’s physics and engineering background, in combination with the extensive biological training that he is receiving in the Ingber lab, will allow him to take a multidisciplinary approach toward developing an innovative model that has the potential to replace the use of animals in cancer research.

Erica Schlesinger, a Ph.D. student at the University of California San Francisco working in Dr. Tejal Desai’s lab, received support for her project, “In-vitro 3D Flow Through System for Improved Intestinal Permeability Model.” Erica aims to develop a model in which human intestinal cells are grown on a tubular scaffold to better mimic the microenvironment of the intestine. Using this approach, experimental drugs can be flowed through the system, enabling drug absorption to be assessed. This new model has the potential to improve upon existing in vitro approaches to study drug absorption while reducing the need for more complex animal experimentation.

Sun Nee Tan, a Ph.D. candidate in the Graduate Program in Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia under the mentorship of Dr. Martin McKeown, will be using state-of-the-art brain imaging techniques on human subjects for her project, “Structural and Functional Neuroplasticity of Parkinson’s Disease Following a Sensori-Motor Contingent Musical Walking Intervention (Ambulosono).” Her study will determine the effectiveness of a music-contingent walking exercise program as an intervention for Parkinson’s disease subjects. Neuroscience studies traditionally rely heavily on animal models, despite their limited translatability to human populations; therefore the use of imaging techniques on human subjects to study neuroplasticity may replace conventional research which uses animal testing for this purpose.

IFER Graduate Fellowships are awarded annually in amounts up to $ 15,000 to early career scientists who are developing alternatives to the use of animals in product testing, biomedical research and education. Fellowships are renewable for up to three years. More information on the IFER Graduate Fellowship Program can be found at http://www.ifer.org/fellowships.php.

ABOUT THE NATIONAL ANTI-VIVISECTION SOCIETY

Founded in 1929, the National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS) promotes greater compassion, respect and justice for animals through educational and advocacy programs based on respected ethical, scientific and legal theory. NAVS works to increase public awareness about animal testing and experimentation, to promote positive solutions that advance science, to support the development of alternatives to the use of animals, and to effect changes that will help end the unnecessary suffering of laboratory animals. For more information, visit http://www.navs.org.

ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR ETHICAL RESEARCH

Founded in 1985, the International Foundation for Ethical Research (IFER) supports the development, validation and implementation of innovative scientific methodologies that advance science and replace the use of animals in research, testing and education.
