Great Ab Workouts for Women

These are great ab workouts that perfectly suits women aging 18 years old and above. These exercises will help developing the abdominal part of the body with the use of bands or an exercise ball.

•  Wood Chops – Tie a stretchable band onto a pole or something hard and immovable object and wrap the other end around the hands. Hold the band with both hands with the body reaching towards the place where the band is attached. Slowly rotate the arms to the left without bending the elbow. Return to the starting position and rotate to the other side. Repeat this exercise up to 12 times.

•  Ball Traps – This is one of the great ab workouts that must be done while sitting on a huge exercise ball. Sit up straight, contract the abs and place the hands behind the head. Place one foot over the medicine ball on the floor and then lower the foot and place the other one. Maintain the balance by the contraction of abs.

•  Hip Extension – Lie on the floor. Place the heels of the feet over the ball. Lay the hands flat on both sides. Keep the abs tight and slowly lift the hips off the floor until the body is straight. Hold to the position up to 5 seconds and lower back the hips. Repeat up to 12 times.

•  Arm Sweep – Sit on a flat surface with bended knees. Stretch the arms in front of the body. Lean back until the abs is contracting without straining the back or hunching. Rotate the arms in a circular motion. Sit back up and then move the arms to the other side. Repeat these ab workouts for 12 times.

•  Side Plank – Lie on the side, lifting the body with one arm, palm down. Lower the hips to the floor for a few seconds while holding up the torso steadily. Lift back the hip again. Repeat this up to 12 times then do it on the other side.

•  Reverse Crunch – Lie down on the floor with arms on both sides. Cross the feet together while the knees are bended to 90%. Curl the hips with contracted abs until the legs are positioned into reaching the ceiling. Repeat this up to 16 times.

•  Crunches – Lie on the floor with bended knees. Insert the medicine ball between the knees. Hold the ball with squeezed thighs. Place the hands at the back of the head. Slowly lift the shoulder blades and the hips off the floor. Lower back again and repeat.

Things to remember:

•  These suggested exercises are effective when done 3 times a week, non-consecutively.
•  Do 1-3 sets for each exercises with 12-16 repetitions each.
•  Make sure that the exercises are done properly to avoid straining the muscles and overdoing the exercises.
•  Exercises that aren’t properly done will have a poor result or may lead to extreme body pain.
•  Drink lots of water to keep the body hydrated.
•  Lastly, as advised by any physical instructors, before performing any kind of these ab workouts, it is important consult the physician first to know the limits of the body.

A Home Gym And Walking = A Great Exercise Program

With the busy lifestyles today few adults with families can afford to take the time necessary to go the health club or neighborhood gym on a regular basis. Heck, even if it’s within a short distance, we’re talking about several hours commitment per session. Who has time for that!?

Still, we all recognize that exercise is just downright good for you. If you name any random 10 medical conditions and diseases, I’m willing to bet money that some form of frequent exercise is a good treatment or preventative measure for at least 9 of them. Diet and exercise pop up as treatments and preventative measures in so many of the diseases that ail us today, and both of these areas are a good place to focus on if your concerned about your health. Even just some simple walking for exercise can go a long way to improving your health. Walking for exercise is fun, easy, and is a great stress reducer but more on that in a minute.

Another idea is that of home gym equipment. now we’re not talking about enough equipment to fill up the basement or several bedrooms. What you want is something that you enjoy that can be done in the privacy of your home whenever you desire. My son, who’s working on his muscle tone has a resistance weight training program with 1 piece of equipment. The wife likes the aerobic action of a small trampoline and treadmill. The idea of home gym equipment need not be a daunting enterprise, just something that will save hours and allow the exercise program that your desire right from your own home. Another great workout however is simply walking!

The great thing about walking for exercise is that you can do it anywhere. You have absolutely no excuse for not getting up and walking around for at least 30 minutes a day. So its raining out? If its absolutely miserable out, just walking around your house or apartment a while is better than nothing.

Running and other more strenuous forms of exercise can cause all kinds of joint pain and soreness, and isn’t recommended unless you are in otherwise good shape.

A lot of recent studies into different forms of exercise are showing that walking is every bit as good for you as running or other more vigorous exercises, you just need to do it longer. If you are walking for exercise, go for at least 30 minutes or even an hour. The more the better, as you can’t hurt yourself by walking too much.

As it is something virtually anyone that can walk can do, there is a huge target market for walking programs. I’d recommend any program that motivates you to walk frequently. Even without one, there are hiking and walking clubs all over the place to join. Not only can walking for exercise be a way to maintain good health, but it can be a good way to meet new people and form new networks.

With so many benefits and virtually no cons, you can’t go wrong with walking for exercise. Its only drawback is that it takes time to do, but it is time well spent. Bastyr University and Era Living are collaborating to enhance the health and well-being of older adults with a year of free workshop offerings at Era Living communities located throughout the Seattle metro-area.

“Part of the goal of naturopathic medicine is to prevent problems from happening before they start,” says Bastyr University President Daniel K. The Urban Assault Ride Returns: Bicycle Obstacle Race Uses Beer, Bikes and Big Wheels to Teach Cyclists that Bikes are a Great Way to Get Around Town

The celebration of beer, bikes and big wheels returns in 2015 kicking off the season in Denver on June 14, before moving on to Minneapolis (July 12), Des Moines (August 16), Austin (November 1), and Tucson (November 15).

The Urban Assault Ride is the only bicycle obstacle event series in the nation. Its unique format, which is part bike ride, part obstacle race, and part scavenger hunt is part of the allure of the event, which has gained a cult-like following since its inaugural event in Austin in 2003. Teams of two plan their own route to checkpoints around town, tackling obstacles at each stop along the way. Obstacles include: adult big wheels, the ‘paper boy’ challenge, ‘human slingshot’, the ‘longboard launch’ and more. The first team to hit all the checkpoints, complete the obstacles, and cross the finish line wins. The UAR is followed by a huge after party with plenty of craft beer and legendary prize contest. This year, the winning duo takes home a pair of adult size big wheels from Huffy Slider, one of the event sponsors. Other sponsors include Keen, New Belgium, Osprey, and CLIF Bar.

While the event is big on fun, it was designed with the mission to promote bikes as a means of transportation. The Urban Assault Ride aims to provide cyclists with an adventurous opportunity to learn safe cycling routes around town. The motto is “grab your bike lock, instead of your car keys for short trips around town”. Past participants are excited when they realize they gained an increased knowledge of safe and efficient bike routes around their city during their Urban Assault Ride experience.

“We are super excited to bring back an event we are so passionate about,” explains Josh Kravetz, president of Adventure Fit, the company that produces the event.
