Chicago Suburban Resort wins Prestigious Dick Busse Business of the Year Award, Prompting it to increase Workforce by Six Digits!

Oak Brook, IL (PRWEB) April 01, 2015

The Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort & Conference Center is committed to growing its workforce and supporting its mission of becoming a uniquely sustainable destination. The resort’s uncommon practices are evident throughout hotel operations, but none more so than what’s taking place outside on its grounds, comprised of a 150-acre Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary and the Championship Willow Crest Golf Club. Today, the multi-faceted west suburban resort announced the implementation of a highly unusual work program for the anticipated 110,000 new members of its workforce, launching with the emergence of spring. Spearheaded by Executive Chef Sean Curry, self-proclaimed “Godfather” of the program, this primarily food-driven initiative is sure to create a buzz.

Unlike with a typical work program, the participants of this initiative do not expect any sort of compensation other than on premise housing and free food. “Accommodating 110,000 workers poses a unique challenge on the resort’s 150 beautifully landscaped acres, but we know just how to get that done,” said Stefan Mühle, general manager of Oak Brook Hills, last week’s recipient of the prestigious Dick Busse Business of the Year Award. “Those workers won’t need much space; they really like close quarters anyway!” he added.

Larry Forssberg, Executive Director of the Westmont Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau, agrees. “This large of an expansion of labor is a huge plus for our community, and we embrace the resort’s initiative to get that large a group of new workers into our neighborhood. As most know, bees are very hard working, which makes the positive impact of this new initiative even more un-bee-lievable!”

The program begins with the advent of spring, and will escalate as the season continues. Workers’ housing conditions and productivity will be closely monitored through the season. Chef Sean will utilize their honey output for his “modern farm cuisine” recipes, and their pollination skills for a chef’s garden. Cancer, Caregivers, and Comedy: Two Chicago Women Bring Their Story of Survival to New York

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 12, 2015

BeeFAB Productions, a Chicago-based theater company, is bringing its new show, “Tales of a Stage 4 Cancer,” to Chelsea’s Magnet Theater for its New York debut on Monday, May 4, 2015.

Written and performed by Judy Fabjance and Kelly Beeman, “Tales” is a collection of satire, comedy, and touching stories about the brutal strength of newlyweds facing the daily grim realities of The Big C – softened by the humor of the unexpected bittersweet revelations.

“Anyone who has been affected by cancer in any way will relate to this show,” says Fabjance. “We’ve had doctors and nurses come to our show and tell us that they now have a better understanding of what their patients go through.”

When Fabjance produced her first one-woman show, “Are You There, Judy? It’s me, Cancer” in 2011, she was already a three-year survivor after a right mastectomy. Last year she married Beeman, who became her primary caretaker.

Beeman calls “Tales” a love story. “So many people feel like they are trapped in this depressing, scary story. We want to help them find the humor, find the lighter side; find the release.”

Through sketches, songs, and monologues, Beeman and Fabjance tackle everything from restrictive diets to their sex life to the questionable motives of cancer’s so-called “Big Pink” industry.

Their satirical perspective is rooted in their training at the Chicago’s Second City Conservatory, where Fabiance has been an instructor since 1999, where she worked and studied with Tina Fey, Steve Carrell, Stephen Colbert, and many other comedic luminaries who have supported Fabjance through every step of her arduous journey. Colbert even provided an autographed book for a silent auction as a fundraiser for the cause, listing the book’s actual value as “priceless.”

Beeman writes and performs in training sketches for Lambda Legal, Personal Pac, and Motorola, where she also has a day job as a reliability engineer.

The Clare In Chicago Welcomes Residents Looking To Stay Active In Their Careers Unlike The Perception Of Other Retirement Communities

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) November 30, 2014

While The Clare fits securely in the category of luxury retirement community, the designation ‘retirement’ is a bit of a misnomer for some. Case in point is Dr. Steven Andres who has lived at The Clare for the past two and a half years. The ideal location in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast, along with the community’s great amenities has made The Clare the perfect home for Andres who is possibly 20 years away from ‘retirement’.

“While many of the residents at The Clare are certainly retired, others remain very engaged in the careers that they love, as well as in volunteer work, and many activities throughout the community. We prefer to refer to The Clare as luxury senior living,” said Kyle Exline, executive director of The Clare.

Andres pursued his dream career late in life but is finding it was worth the wait. It wasn’t until he was 40 that he decided to return to school to become a veterinarian. Now, the resident of The Clare, owns and operates a total of four veterinary clinics in the downtown area.

Andres loves the coincidence of being a native of Clare, Illinois, a small town in Chicago’s western suburbs. He attended Illinois State University where he earned his degree in animal science, working towards his masters degree at Texas A&M in animal nutrition. Andres’ family bought a ranch in Wyoming, which he ran for eight years. First Chicago National Bank then recruited him and he had a successful banking career for eight years. When he started noticing the banking world changing with major work force reductions he said, “I saw the writing on the wall.” Andres decided to pursue his lifelong goal of becoming a veterinarian. He attended Ross School of Veterinary medicine in St. Kitts for two years, transferring to University of Missouri where he completed his clinical year.

In 2000, Andres became a veterinarian, which he said “was a dream come true.” He moved to Chicago where he worked for several veterinary clinics. In 2007, Andres launched Clark N Oak Animal Health Center. “I now have 12,000 patients with 7000-8000 clients or owners. It really took off,” he said. Andres subsequently opened South State N 16th Animal Wellness Center, and will soon open Clark N Delaware Cat Clinic and North N Hudson Animal Wellness Center.

Moving to The Clare while he’s still working full-time suits Andres well. “I work a lot. Six or seven days a week” he said. “At The Clare, they cook fabulous meals, clean my apartment and provide first-rate entertainment. This fits perfectly for me.”

Andres first learned about The Clare several years ago, moving to the community in 2012. “At first I was looking at the future, thinking that when I retired I’d move there. Then I started thinking about it as a possibility a lot sooner. I’m not married and I don’t have children. This seemed like a great option,” he said. The fact that he has juvenile onset diabetes was a motivating factor. “Prior to this, I was eating out a lot. Living here gives me a lot more control over my diet.”

Andres said that he’s made great friends at The Clare. “The people here are all so interesting. They all have stories. I’m learning so much from the people here,” he said. “I enjoy all of the amenities and people and the location doesn’t get any better. I participate in social events and outings. I get involved with things that I wouldn’t otherwise get involved with. I wouldn’t have gone to the opera before, but I do that here. The Clare has become my concierge.

The Clare at Rush and Pearson is a Life Care retirement community in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast with incomparable lifestyle, amenities and the financial stability only a debt-free community can offer. The Terraces at The Clare, which partners with Northwestern Memorial Hospital, provides assisted living, memory support, rehabilitation and skilled nursing. The Terraces has earned the 5-star quality rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The Clare is owned by Chicago Senior Care and managed by Life Care Services. FDAnews Announces New 1 Day Workshop, 2 Locations UDI: It Wont Wait Until You Are Ready, Nov. 11, Chicago, IL and Nov. 13, Waltham, MA

Falls Church, VA (PRWEB) October 16, 2014

It Won’t Wait Until You Are Ready

One Unique Device Identification (UDI) deadline has come and gone. Other deadlines loom in the coming months. Don’t risk a 483, warning letter or unhappy customers.

The first UDI deadline for Class 3 device just took effect. The deadline for implantable, life-supporting and life-sustaining devices is rapidly approaching. Device and diagnostics firms must comply or pay the penalty.

But implementation is no walk in the park. It’s not sufficient to master the 160-page final rule. Manufacturers need to be on top of every new FDA guidance. They need to assign responsibilities, set schedules and deadlines, and establish audit and quality procedures.

Come to Chicago Nov. 11 or Boston Nov. 13 for a crash course in UDI, taught by a seasoned expert in medical device and diagnostics compliance issues.

Attendees will start the morning with a deep dive into what UDI and GUDID are, how they apply to products and services and take part in the first exercise of the day, reviewing cases to determine when a change requires a new device identifier.

Then it’s on to the nuts and bolts of device, label and package UDI. This session covers compliance dates, direct marking, device labeling, package configurations and more, winding up with two exercises reviewing cases to determine compliance date, and hands-on application of package configuration rules.

After lunch and networking, it’s on to the GUDID including how to populate it, how to maintain it, and technical aspects of data loading. Attendees finish up by actually developing GUDID data for one of their own devices.

The day concludes with an in-depth look at updating the QMS including the regulation itself, medical device reports, corrections and removals, record retention, FDA inspections, 510(k)s and eMDRs.

The included course materials enhance the workshop’s value:

    Label and package implementation checklist
    Package configuration worksheet
Excel worksheet that implements the GUDID business rules

The first UDI compliance deadline has come and gone. The next deadline will be here soon. Make sure the manufacturer is in full compliance and warning letter-proof.
